The muscles of mastication are the
- temporalis
- medial pterygoid
- lateral pterygoid
- Masseter
They provide movement for mastication and chewing
They are all innervated by the mandibular nerve.
Temporalis
runs from the temporal fossa to the coronoid process and anterior border of the ramus of mandible
elevates mandible and retrude mandible
Masseter
from zygomatic arch to lateral surface of mandible
it elevates the mandible
Medial pterygoid
goes from the medial surface of lateral pterygoid plate and tuberosity of maxilla to the medial surface of ramus of mandible
it elevates and protrudes mandible
lateral pterygoid
THis has 2 heads. One comes from the greater wing of sphenoid and one from the lateral surface of the lateral pterygoid plate. it inserts at the neck of mandible, capsule and disc of tmj
it protrudes and depresses chin
temporomendibular joint

surfaces condyle of mandible articular tubercle and mandibular fossa of temporal bone articular disc
infra temporal fossa
this is the space between the dise wall ood the pharynz and ramus of mandible
contains lateral and emdial pterygoid
macillary artery and branches mandibular nerve and branches connects to infraorbital siddue connects to pteryopalatine fossa

sternomastoid muscle proximal mastoid process and superior nuchal line distal, sternal head clavicular head
