Treatment regime of epilepsy

Treatment involves starting with an anti-epileptic as a monotherapy at a low dose to minimise adverse effects (which there tend to be many of). If seizure occurs at this dose, uptitrate until there is are no more seizures. If maximum dose is reached, another antiepileptic should be prescribed.

Treatment of acute seizure is often done with benzodiazepines, such as diazepam.
