What is personality
Personality is what type of person you are. This is broken down to personality traits and personality types
Personality traits
A personality trait is a stable recurring pattern of human behaviour. for example tendancy to joke around in serious situations
Personality type
A personality type is a common grouping of related personality traits which often flock together. Eg compulsive personality disorder characterised by preoccupations with work, detail, order, time, money, and cleanliness.
Personality disorder
A personality disorder is a constellation of personality traits which is inflexible and maladaptive leading to difficulties in social groups and or subjective distress. Often Personality disorders are unhealthy amplifications of typical personality traits
Biosocial model
Once again the emergence of any single personality disorder is dependant on both genetics and environmental factors. For example if someone is genetically low focus but has been taught to have persistenct they will be more likely to be able to perform tasks. Personality trait come from your social and physical environment.
Additionally stressors can amplify existing behavioural pattern

We expect to see an enduring patter in 2 or more areas
- Cognition: Distorted thinking patterns
- Affectivity: Emotion dysregulation
- Behaviour: over or under regulated impulse control
- Interpersonal difficulties: Attachment related And this is expected to be:
- Stable and long lasting
- Dysfunction
- Pervasive
- Devation from social/cultural norms
- Cannot be explained by drugs, medication, or medical condition
